This Week's Devotional

Week of February 7

The Lord Jesus is pursuing participants for His kingdom!  Despite modern religious emphasis, God is not trying to fill up hell.  God's desire is to have a "Nation of Priests" who desire to do His will in the earth.  God's priests go all over the world declaring reconciliation between God and mankind.

The call of the Bridegroom has gone out into all the world.  It is a call to relationship.  It is a call to participation with God.  The scripture says, "You are co-laborers togther with Him".  How exciting to think that God wants to include me in what He is doing all over the world.

As God's Holy people we are committed to the broken and bruised of humanity.  We go all over the known world with hope in our words, and help in our hands!  The hope we offer mankind is found in a person, 'The Lord Jesus Christ'.  Bob Dylan sang, "you talk about buddah and mention muhhamad in one breath, but you never mention the man who died a criminals death".

Today I hope that you will find the forgiveness and restorative power that enables you to be a particpant in God's Kindom.

CounselingCentral Assembly of Columbia believes the life of the Body of Jesus Christ is only as effective in the world as the members of His Body are dependent upon the Holy Spirit. That's why Jesus sent the Spirit: "He shall glorify me - He will take the things of mine and show them to you!"

As a congregation, we constantly express our dependence upon the power of the Holy Spirit.  With the Word of God as our base of faith and trust, and with Jesus himself as the foundation of our life and hope, we are an assembly of believers committed to serve the glory of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ.

The first century church, understanding the clear instructions of the Lord, cared for each other.  They understood that being born again didn't just refer to their readiness for heaven.  It also meant extending family ties beyond blood relationships.  Jesus obviously intended that the family be the pattern of love and care.  As a congregation, we seek to be a family that loves and cares for each other.

Jesus stressed the importance of both preaching and teaching in establishing His kingdom.  Preaching confronts the unbeliever with his sin and challenges him to be reconciled to God by accepting Christ as Savior.  Teaching confronts the believer with the the need to accept responsibility for applying Christ's message to daily relationships, recognizing Jesus as Lord.  As a congregation, we take preaching and teaching seriously.  Today, as in the first century, we need the compassionate  concern and commitment that only a caring church can provide.
